Yapese Thur or LavaLava
Outer island Yapese lava-lava or thur hand woven on Fais Island from cotton thread. This is the lavalava worn daily by women and girls on the outer islands of Yap, Micronesia.  It is about 21" wide and slightly over 6' long.

Turtle Shell Comb

This comb is made from turtle shell by crafts women on Namoluk Island, Chuuk, Micronesia.  The comb measures about 4-1/2" high by about 5-1/4" wide.  Turtles are caught for their meat in the Micronesia islands.  Handicraft such as this comb are by-products.  Turtles of only a certain size are allowed to be harvested in the islands so that they are protected from being over-caught.  These combs are worn by almost all the island girls and women.

Yapese Thur or LavaLava
Outer island Yapese lava-lava or thur hand woven on Fais Island from cotton thread. This is the lavalava worn daily by women and girls on the outer islands of Yap, Micronesia. This one has a nice, distinctive red border. It is about 21" wide and slightly over 6' long.

Pre-WW2 Soyu or Wasabi Dish
This small stoneware dish is old, pre WWII.  The texture of the stoneware is very rough and appears to be hand turned.  It is a soft beige color and appears to have had darker brown decoration at one time and measures about 2-5/8" in diameter.  The dish was dug from near the ruins of the commander's house/office at an old Japanese winery on Pohnpei Island, about 500 miles east of Truk.  See Artifact Find for an idea of the area where te dish was found.

Japanese Glass Fishing Float - 12"
This is an old Japanese glass fishing float once used with the large fishing nets for taking tuna and other deep sea species.  These glass ball floats are no longer used, being supplanted by plastic.  The float is green with its original rope covering and is about 12" in diameter. The rope is shredding somewhat and is becoming a bit rotten. This float was found on the eastern side of Pohnpei Island, Federated States of Micronesia - about 4,000 miles southwest of Hawaii at 7 degrees latitude.
